Bean Experiment -- Grading

1. In order to get credit for a lab assignment, you must attend your normal section or see your TA prior to your normal section.
2. Papers (this goes for all written assignments) that are late will get an automatic 10 point deduction. No credit will be given for papers turned in over a week past their deadline. You must talk to your TA if an emergency prevents you from turning in your paper.
3. All written assignments will be due in section the week of their deadline.
4. All students are responsible for signing in each week in section.

Grading Criteria for Lab Report 1: Unconcious selection

Introduction (total 10 points)

• Background / selection processes (5)
• Hypotheses (5)

Methods (total 10 points)

• Bean lab methods (5)
• Animal observation methods (5)

Results (total 10 points)

• Description of bean lab results and R2 value (4)
• Graphical representation of bean lab results (4)
• (graph should be clear, with title, axes, units, linear trendline)
• (Bonus points for p-value and mention of statistical significance) (+2 extra points) Description of animal observations (2)

Discussion (total 10 points)

• Consideration of original hypotheses and proposed mechanisms (5)
• Relationship of animal observation to selection processes (5)

Comprehensive / Discretionary points (total 10 points)

• Organization (3)
• Clarity of writing and ideas (5)
• Aesthetics (2)
• Points off for late papers (-10 pts) and over 1 page limit (-10pts)

Total (50 points)
