Metaphase Furrows
(Top View)
During the cortical syncytial divisions, nuclear divisions occur in very crowded conditions. To prevent collisions between neighboring nuclei, dividing chromosomes (blue) are encompassed by protection membrane barriers (red) that are tightly associated with actin (green). These barriers are structurally and compositionally equivalent to cytokinesis furrows.
