Understanding the Evidence
We have divided the general region of interest into 13 general areas, labeled “Area A” through “Area M”. Next, we matched our photographic evidence with the view from google earth which shows the angle and direction from which the photo was taken. There are 122 labeled “Views” divided between the labeled Areas. For example, Area A is documented in Views 1-15, Area B by Views 16 and 17, etc, through Area M which is documented by Views 96-122 (see Supplement 3). If you click on the map of each "Area", there will be links to each "View" and the supporting aerial photographs.
Snapshots of these google earth views show in color the areas that we have designated as containing Coast Redwoods and Douglas-fir in light green. SJWC Property boundaries are displayed as yellow lines. The boundary of the Timber Harvest Zone is displayed as a red line.
Each piece of evidence is only representative of many other helicopter photos taken from different angles. We chose 122 representative photographs because we have over 700 photographs total. These other photos represent duplicates of the ones that we have presented in the evidence section, every area that we have mapped is represented in the evidence section. Supplement 3 shows the numbers of the other photographs that accompany each area these photographs can be viewed from the location they were taken using the linked Google Earth File. In addition, the resolution of our actual photographs is much higher than the ones we are able to display on the web. Thus is many areas we were able to zoom in and find young timber species that are not apparent from the zoomed out photos. Where ever possible, we have presented the zoomed in photos as evidence. An example high-resolution image for View 1 is linked here.
Download and running the attached Google Earth File is the best way to examine these areas beyond the photographs we have presented here. This file contains links to the entire set of 700 photos.
