Research Interests

The biological, chemical, and physical interface between terrestrial and marine systems has received relatively little attention over the past few decades. As human impacts continue to increase, however, the need to understand the link between these two resources is imperative. Very few studies have been done to look at the effect of terrestrial inputs on marine communities and the conditions under which these inputs are important. The performance of the life stages of Macrocystis depends on a suite of environmental factors, nearly all of which may be influenced by allochthonous inputs. I am particularly interested in looking at nutrient dynamics between these two systems and seeing how they relate to changes in community structuring and functioning.
